246-2107. MEASOM, George. The Official Illustrated Guide to the South-Eastern, and Mid-Kent Railways, and all their Branches: with descriptions of the most important manufactories in the towns on the lines. Charles Griffin & Co., London, under the Authority of the Directors (of the railway). Circa 1863. 7" x 4.75", three--quarter leather boards with title on spine. 48 pages of Introduction and census abstracts + 446 pages illustrated by 250 engravings, and including an addenda. Giving a delightful account of 'The Garden of England' at a period when the title was still justified. This is a scarce guide, this edition is not shown in Ottley. The front and rear hinges to the covers have been crudely repaired; the front free end paper and first leaf have a torn piece missing from the front edge; the whole book shows signs of being used; it is likely that a leaf is missing at the end after the addenda, possibly a publishers advert as there is no apparent loss of text. Nevertheless there is much of importance and interest in this item. With all faults but still a great find.
