September 1863." A Manuscript Illuminated Testimonial. 25" x 19.5". gilt and coloured inks on parchment, mounted on original wood stretcher, with the label of "William Blanford, Picture Frame Maker, etc., London." The testimonial includes a list of ninety-one contributors, headed by The Earls of Brownlow, and Lonsdale, and members of the Rothschild family, all written in an impressive style. Needless to say this was a considerable appreciation of the Station Master, who had started with The London and Birmingham Railway, which was succeeded by the L. & NWR in 1846. Today it is quite unbelievable that anyone could be enthusiastic about the management of their local railway station. A unique and delightful piece of history. The parchment is lifting away from the underframe edge in places and there is some age grubiness; it does not come with plate or sovereigns!
