A biographical account of Oliver Vaughan Bullied the sometime Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Southern Railway by his son, himself an engineer. The man, his life and his work, with much on the design and development of the steam locomotives that he introduced. Ottley 12533. Mint condition.

Atlas Works, Glasgow. 1899. For Engine Works No. 1150. 23" x 37". In ink and part coloured with gouache on linen backed cartridge paper, in full size scale. with fully detailed plan, elevations and sections as required. This is the original master drawing from which printed copies would be made as needed. Most collectable, a unique item that will please. Rolled. Some slight age grubiness but without damage.

231-2393. CHAPSAL, F. Note sur un Systems de Moderateur pour a air Comprime. Paris, 20th October 1893. 12.25" x 8.5" paper folder, 9 pages of text in longhand manuscript + 18" x 33" fold-out drawing of the railway air brake mechanism. This is not a publication but has been professionally draughted in ink and is a technical thesis in the form of an open letter to get the interest of a sponsor in the invention. It describes and illustrates a new type of Rapid Action Air Control Valve to be fitted into the Westinghouse system at the brake cylinder, enabling faster operation and release of the brakes. It is signed by the author and gives his full Paris address. Full French text. Apart from light foxing the condition of both written work and drawings is very fine, free from any damage, the paper folder is frayed at the edges and repaired at the spine. Together with this item is:- Chemins de Fer de L'Ouest, Materiel et Traction. Trains d'experiences de Paris a Evreux et Retour, 13th and 15th October 1894. Pour l'essai des appareils moderateurs de frein systeme Chapsal. 12.25" x 16.25", 1 side folded, longhand manuscript. Showing programme and observations of test runs made with the modified brake gear. Locomotive No. 978 hauling 18 coaches and dynamometer car DF 1002. This report is signed by three Departmental Chief Engineers of the railway company. Full French text. Very good condition. Together with:- Societe des Freins Soulerin. Dessin No. 1112. Moderateur Systeme Chapsal, application sur une voiture munia de frein Westinghouse, 21st April 1894. Blueprint drawing 12.5" x 20". Very fine condition. The three items compliment each other and cover an interesting part of railway brake development, making a significant part of history.

All are taken from official sources, publisher anonymous. 5.75" x 8.5", to one-hundredth scale, white on blue print, circa 1908. Showing a fully detailed side elevation external view, with major dimensions, weights and brief specifications. Text in French. This is an extremely informative series of drawings, draughted in a fine style, that makes an important historic record of the locomotives of the period. All of these in very fine condition.
