229-1652. The Staffordshire and North Midland Junction Railway. Prospectus. Capital GBP. 700,000 in 35,000 Shares of GBP. 20 each. Deposit GBP.2-2s-0d, per Share. By the Provisionally Registered Company, Uttoxeter. Original printing. 15.25" x 9.5", 3 pages. Including a substantial listing of the Committee, Engineers, Bankers, Solicitors, Secretary and Management. It is intended to commence by joining the Grand Junction Railway at Stafford, and proceed by Uttoxeter, Rocester and Ashbourne, to a Junction with the Midland Railway, the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Railway, and the Amber Gate, Nottingham, Boston, and Eastern Junction Railway, at the general Terminus at Amber Gate; a short branch from Wirksworth will connect the line with that town, and the important Limestone and Mineral District connected with it. The line will be about forty miles long, and by its connection with the Midland Railway at Amber Gate, and the Derby and Crewe Railway at Uttoxeter, will be the nearest practicable route from Sheffield, York, Leeds, Hull, and the Populous Manufacturing districts of Yorkshire and the North and North Eastern part of England, to the Salt districts of Cheshire, the Potteries, Liverpool and North Wales, and by its Junction at Stafford with the Shropshire Union Railway, will be the nearest route from those important districts to Shrewsbury and South Wales and by the Grand Junction Railway, to the densely populated districts of South Staffordshire. An unused Form of Application for Shares is also included. A very important scheme, excellent history. Folds to 9.5" x 4". Very fine condition.

The company owned two 2-6-4 Tank locomotives at this time. Excellent history.

229-1660. Thessalian Railways. Joint Stock Company. Athens, 27th May 1886. Certificate for One Share to Bearer of 250 Francs (or Ten Pound Sterling) fully paid, issued, and signed by all concerned and rubber stamped. 8.25" x 13", on watermarked paper. Engraved in Paris in an elaborate style, blue on white, with a border that incorporates devices and a railway scene which is flanked by two nubile goddess figures with their attendant cherubim pages, representing land transport and marine transport. Text in Greek with full version in English and French on the verso. Very nice history.

229-1688. Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Company. Certificate of Five per cent Guaranteed Preferred Shares, of GBP. 10 each. Written in December 1876 for ten numbered Shares to a spinster of Ballylesson, Lisburn. 7" x 10.5", printed by Waterlow & Sons, London, in an ornate style, mauve on white. Impressed with the railway company seal, signed by the Secretary and two Directors. "Cancelled" with faint rubber stamping. This railway was amalgamated to the Great Southern and Western Railway in August 1900. Excellent history. Scarce. The substantial paper is a little cockled but it has not been wet. It is untorn and will please in otherwise fine condition.
