228-1068. The Russian South-Eastern Railway Company. 4 & 1/2% Bond Loan, for 3,096,300 Pounds Sterling, nominal. With the absolute guarantee of the Imperial Russian Government. Petrograd, 1914. Bond of Twenty Pounds Sterling. Issued 18th September 1915, signed by the seven required parties, and impressed with a Four Shillings Revenue Stamp. 14" x 10.5", on watermarked quality paper. Engraved in Russia in an elaborate style, brown and black on cream, with a decorated border. Full text in Russian and English, with detailed conditions of issue on the verso. Including an attached page of the unused Interest Talons, the last of these coupons to be claimed being that of October 1917. Petrograd was taken over by the Bolsheviks and on the 8th November 1917, the government that had guaranteed this Bond was disbanded and the first Socialist State established. It might be thought injudicious to have invested in a Russian railway with a world war already being fought, to say nothing of the likely outbreak of a Revolution. However this is superb history, aside from the progress of events the Bond has not been cancelled and is in very fine condition.
